We welcome you to the mid-term meeting of the Indian Society of Organ Transplantation (ISOT) and the 4th consultative meet from 16th to 18th March 2017 in Chennai. The theme of the meeting is Asian perspectives on organ donation & transplantation.
Asia lags behind the rest of the world in the field of organ donation and transplantation compared to America and Europe. Asia does 4 to 5 per million live and deceased donor kidney transplants compared to 27 in Europe and 46 in USA, although 60% of the world population lives in this large continent. The current meeting will get the best of Asian perspectives from leading countries in the field.
Asian society has certain commonalities when it comes to family values and decision making and these aspects differentiate it from the rest of the world. The challenges in pushing the organ donation programme forward in Asia differ, and requires a different approach especially when it is about the decision to donate an organ.
In India there has been a trend towards an increase in living and deceased donation over the past 5 years and so it has been in countries such as China, Korea, Iran, and Qatar to name a few. The current meeting will have perspectives from all these countries.
We invite you to participate and be part of this meeting.
Thank you
Kind Regards
Dr. Sunil Shroff
